Alex Alvarez is a family medicine resident at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. He completed his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering at the University of Arizona followed by combined MD/PhD training at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson, where he focused his research on the development of novel, multimodal ultrasound technologies. During this time, Alex was also heavily involved in equity and inclusion work at his institution and advocacy work surrounding migration, asylum, and incarceration along the US-Mexico border. His future career goals include integrating point-of-care ultrasound technologies into underresourced primary care settings, providing medical care to HIV-positive and LGBTQIA+ patients experiencing homelessness, and advocating for marginalized communities, especially queer communities of color, at the interpersonal, institutional, local, and federal levels..
