Matthew Shick, J.D.
Director, Government Relations & Regulatory Affairs
Association of American Medical Colleges

Mr. Shick joined the AAMC in 2005 and is responsible for regulatory and legislative policy related to the physician workforce, higher education, veteran affairs, and diversity — among others.  In this capacity, he works closely with the association’s medical school deans and teaching hospital CEOs. He is the government relations liaison to the AAMC Organization of Student Representatives and Group on Student Affairs.

Mr. Shick oversees AAMC’s coordination of the Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition (HPNEC), which advocates for workforce training and diversity pipeline programs under the Health Resources and Services Administration. He also serves on the executive committee of the Friends of VA Medical Care and Health Research (FOVA) and is founder of the National Health Service Corps Stakeholders coalition. He previously served as editor of the AAMC’s weekly government relations newsletter, Washington Highlights. Prior to joining the AAMC, he worked for U.S. Representative Nick Lampson (TX), focusing on health and education issues.  Mr. Shick holds a B.S. in Biology from Georgetown University and a J.D. from George Mason University School of Law.
