Melanie Yates is a first-year health policy and advocacy fellow with George Washington University. She completed her undergraduate degree in biology at Gonzaga University where she was also on the varsity tennis team. She went to Case Western Reserve University for medical school, and then went on to complete her emergency medicine residency where she served as a chief resident at the University of Cincinnati. Melanie currently serves as the chair for the Emergency Medicine Residents Association Health Policy Committee. She has also given multiple national level presentations on topics including firearm injury prevention, civic engagement, and Medicare/Medicaid. She aspires in her career to use her clinical and policy knowledge to better advocate for her colleagues and her patients.
