Meredith Williams, MD, MBA is an innovative executive health care leader with a uniquely combined skillset of health plan and clinical expertise, with the proven ability to achieve results, create value, and improve population health. She deeply believes that the future of health care will be in creating greater value for the patient as the clinical and payor areas of health care increasingly merge. She has consistently demonstrated the ability solve complex non-binary challenges through leading diverse teams in regulated and matrixed environments. She has expertise in Medicare Advantage, health plan network development, value-based reimbursements and complex financial arrangements, provider negotiation and engagement, market field operations and clinical care delivery.
She currently serves as the Market President for “Author by Humana”, a tech-enabled start-up organization leading dual-process transformation within Humana in order to help members achieve their best health. She is accountable for advancing strategic goals by leading field operations with a broad set of stakeholders, including sales agents, provider groups, and community based organizations. She additionally continues to practice medicine as an Emergency Physician in Louisville, which allows her to remain connected to the challenges of care delivery and the transformation of clinical practice.
At Humana she has also served as Field VP for Network in KY and WV, where she led network development, negotiation, and contracting for Medicare, commercial, and Medicaid lines of business across both states. She led large, complex negotiations covering hospitals and physician groups for all contract types, including risk arrangements, bundled payments, and traditional fee-for-service
agreements. She created over $1.6M in savings to Humana.
Additionally she served as the North Division Lead Medical Director for the Care Decision Insights program, driving Medicare trend improvement in 22 states. Through the use of advanced claims analytics she identified opportunities for improvement in trend and worked with large provider groups to improve performance as part of value-based contracts and population health strategies.
She is the founder and first graduate of Humana’s Executive Physician Immersion Program, demonstrating the successful ability to develop and launch transformative and innovative programs. She graduated magna cum laude from Yale University, with a degree in History, and received her MD from Baylor College of Medicine and her MBA from Rice University. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of Chicago and was the Chief Resident of Quality.
