Bruce Siegel, MD, MPH
President and CEO
American Essential Hospitals

With an extensive background in health care management, policy, and public health, Dr. Siegel has the blend of experience necessary to lead America’s Essential Hospitals and its members through the changing health care landscape and into a sustainable future. America’s Essential Hospitals (formerly the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems) is the only national organization representing hospitals committed to caring for the uninsured and other vulnerable people. The association works to preserve and protect these organizations, which form the foundation of a strong, vibrant health system for all members of society.

Since joining America’s Essential Hospitals in 2010, Dr. Siegel has guided the association toward realizing its strategic vision of helping members transform into integrated delivery systems and leaders in access and quality. America’s Essential Hospitals also works to secure sustainable funding for essential hospitals, which fill a safety net role in their communities. Dr. Siegel has helped shape the association’s work in advocacy, member support, and quality. He led the launch of the Transformation Center, a catalyst for innovative change to improve quality and safety and a part of the Essential Hospitals Institute, the association’s research arm. With Dr. Siegel’s leadership, America’s Essential Hospitals established the nation’s first safety net quality network under the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Partnership for Patients. Through this Essential Hospitals Engagement Network, association members collaborate to improve safety and help eliminate care disparities for vulnerable patients.
