Catherine Crosland, MD
Medical Director of Emergency Response Sites
Unity Health Care
Dr. Crosland has dedicated her medical career to advocating for and delivering high quality health care to vulnerable populations. After graduating from Harvard Medical School and completing her residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital she began her career as a primary care physician at San Quentin prison where she helped to improve the medical standards at a time when the California prison system was put into Federal receivership. For the past ten years she has worked for Unity Health Care (formerly DC's Health Care for the Homeless Project) as Medical Director for Homeless Outreach Services and Director of Homeless Outreach Development.
In addition to providing clinical care for people experiencing homelessness in a variety of clinical settings ranging from shelter-based clinics to street outreach medicine, she also manages over ten homeless outreach clinics. She serves on the clinicians’ network steering committee with the National Health Care for the Homeless Council to collaborate with clinicians nationwide to share best practices and develop policy and clinical guidance that serve the needs of people experiencing homelessness. As a member of DC’s Interagency Council on Homelessness, she brings her clinical experience to bear on addressing gaps in care and advocating for systems changes to improve the health outcomes for her patients. Currently, during the COVID-19 pandemic she works closely with DC's Department of Human Services to develop the city's plan to protect people experiencing homelessness and serves as the medical director for the emergency response sites established by DHS.
